As you will know under the paragraph 12(3) of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1922 the Regulation provides "So far as reasonably practicable every floor in a workplace and every surface of every traffic route in a workplace shall be kept free from . . . any ... substance which may cause a person to slip . . . or fall". Recent Court Cases (2011) have shown that it is no longer acceptable to be re-active in the treating of Ice and Snow and that a pro-active stance must be taken. It has also highlighted that precautionary treatments should be carried out at a time that is suitable for each site i.e the treatment must be carried out and completed prior to site population, but not in a time frame where by the treatment has become in-effective.

When we carry out a site survey one of the questions that we ask is the site/shift operating hours, this information is then used to ensure that we carry out our Gritting/Snow Clearing to suit the site and not our own shedules. Whilst this method does mean that we require more Gritters it ensures that you can prove "Best Practise" should anyone try to make a claim against you.
